Malaysia's Festive Marketing Calendar 2026–2027: Plan Your Campaigns Early

In Malaysia, festive seasons are not a marketing “moment”; they are the commercial calendar. Deepavali, 11.11, Christmas, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya all change what people buy and when they buy it. Brands that plan eight weeks ahead usually beat those that scramble in the final fortnight.

The Malaysian festive calendar at a glance

Dates for lunar and Islamic occasions shift each year and are confirmed by official announcements, so treat the timings below as planning estimates.

Note that in 2027 Chinese New Year and the start of Ramadan fall within days of each other. If you serve both communities, plan sensitive, distinct content for each rather than one blended campaign.

An 8-week campaign timeline that works

    1. 8 weeks out: strategy. Set the goal (sales, leads, awareness), pick the audience and decide your offer. Check last year’s results.
    2. 6 weeks out: creative and landing pages. Shoot content, write copy in the right languages and build the landing page or product collection.
    3. 4 weeks out: teasers and list building. Warm up your audience with sneak peeks, early-bird sign-ups and WhatsApp broadcast lists.
    4. 2 weeks out: launch. Switch on paid ads and push your offer across social, email and WhatsApp.
    5. During: optimise daily. Check spend, stock, response times and creative fatigue. Swap tired ads quickly.
    6. After: thank and retarget. Send thank-you messages, ask for reviews and retarget visitors who did not buy.

Get the tone right for every community

Malaysia’s strength is its diversity, and audiences notice when a brand is only going through the motions. A few principles we follow:

    • Use real language. Write greetings in the right language (Selamat Hari Raya, Gong Xi Fa Cai, Happy Deepavali) and have a native speaker review the copy.
    • Respect the occasion. Avoid trivialising religious or cultural symbols. Check dietary and halal considerations before featuring food.
    • Show real people. Families, friends and neighbours celebrating feel more authentic than stock images.
    • Offer something useful. Gift sets, bundles, free delivery thresholds and flexible payment work well because festive shopping is often a gifting exercise.

    Budget and media tips

    • Advertising costs usually rise in the weeks before major festivals and mega-sale days because more brands compete. Start earlier to build audiences while costs are lower.
    • Put a larger share of budget on retargeting during peak days; people already know you.
    • Make sure your website or store is fast and stock is accurate. Sending paid traffic to a slow page is the most common festive mistake.
    • Set festive opening hours on your Google Business Profile and WhatsApp auto-reply.

    Content ideas by platform

    • Instagram & TikTok: behind-the-scenes preparation, recipes and gift guides in short vertical video.
    • Facebook: community giveaways and countdown posts; still strong for family-oriented audiences.
    • WhatsApp: personalised greetings and early access offers for repeat customers (with consent).
    • Xiaohongshu: lifestyle and shopping recommendations for Chinese-speaking audiences.

Tip: keep a shared festive calendar for the whole year, with a named owner and deadline for each campaign. Our clients who do this rarely miss a season.
