SEO

When someone in Petaling Jaya searches “dental clinic near me” or “kedai makan berdekatan”, Google shows a map with three businesses. Local SEO is how you earn one of those spots. These ten steps are the ones that move the needle for Malaysian businesses.
Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important local SEO asset. Claim it, verify it (usually by postcard, phone or video) and fill in every field: business name, address, phone, website, opening hours and services.
Pick one accurate primary category (for example “Dentist”, not “Health”) and a few relevant secondary categories. Categories are one of the strongest ranking signals for map results.
Use exactly the same business name, address format and phone number everywhere: website, GBP, Facebook, directories. Inconsistent details confuse search engines and customers.
Many Malaysians navigate with Waze. Make sure your location is correct there and on Apple Maps, and add a “Get directions” button on your website that opens both Google Maps and Waze.
Add exterior, interior, team and product photos. Update opening hours for public holidays and festive periods. Listings with fresh photos and accurate hours get more calls and direction requests.
Ask happy customers for a Google review right after a good experience, with a short link or QR code at the counter. Reply to every review, positive or negative, in the language the customer used. Never buy reviews; it violates Google’s policies.
If you have several branches (for example Mont Kiara, Penang and Johor Bahru), create a separate page for each with its own address, map, opening hours and unique text. Do the same for core services so each can rank for its own search.
Your page title should combine the service and the place: “Teeth Whitening in Bangsar | Lumi Dental”. Use natural language in headings and write for people first.
Malaysians search in several languages. Depending on your audience, research English terms (“hair salon near me”), Bahasa Malaysia terms (“kedai gunting rambut berdekatan”) and Chinese terms. Add the relevant versions to your pages and, where you have an audience for them, separate language pages.
Structured data helps Google understand your business details. Here is a minimal example you can adapt:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Dentist",
"name": "Your Clinic Name",
"url": "https://www.example.com.my/",
"telephone": "+60312345678",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "12 Jalan Example",
"addressLocality": "Kuala Lumpur",
"postalCode": "50450",
"addressCountry": "MY"
}
}
Finally, make sure your website loads quickly on mobile data. Slow pages lose customers and rankings.
Be patient. Local SEO usually shows early gains in 6–12 weeks, with bigger results over several months as reviews, content and links build.
